A WOMAN has suffered severe burning to her anus after being struck by lightning which hit her in the mouth and passed right through her body.

Natasha Timarovic, 27, was cleaning her teeth at in her home in the Croatian city of Zadar when lightning struck the building.

She said: "I had just put my mouth under the tap to rinse away the toothpaste when the lightning must have struck the building.

"I don't remember much after that, but I was later told that the lightning had travelled down the water pipe and struck me on the mouth, passing through my body.

"It was incredibly painful, I felt it pass through my torso and then I don't remember much at all." Doctors at the city hospital where she was treated for burns to the mouth and rear said: "The accident is bizarre but not impossible."

She was wearing rubber bathroom shoes at the time and so instead of earthing through her feet it appears the electricity shot out of her backside," a medic told local newspaper, 24 Sata.

"It appears to have earthed through the damp shower curtain that she was touching as she bent over to put her mouth under the tap. If she had not been wearing the shoes she would probably have been killed by the blast."

24 Sata said the young woman had been released from hospital after being kept in overnight and was expected to make a full recovery.

Encourage Your Child To Love Learning

We all want our kids to love to learn. A passion for learning is quite different from just studying to earn a grade or to please parents or teachers. Those who develop a love of learning at an early age continue the process throughout their lives and are generally more successful, interesting, and happier than those who don't.

Here are some simple ways to nurture that passion for learning in your child.

1. Talk with your child about the things you read and hear, especially the things you find interesting.

2. Ask your kids how they feel about various issues (current events, relationships, values). Allow them to have opinions without passing judgment. Ask your children to help you understand why they feel the way they do.

3. Pursue your own hobbies and interests. Share these with your child, but do not require that he or she follow your pursuits.

4. Encourage your kids to have interests of their own. If they show curiosity about a hobby, area of study, sport, or instrument, encourage and support them in any way your finances allow.

5. Read books. Read on your own, which sets a good example. Read to your kids, to get them hooked on books.

6. Expose your child to a wide variety of experiences including music, plays, sports, museums, travel, reading, dance, games, food, puzzles, ethnic activities, etc. One never knows how what exposure may influence future life choices.

7. Play "thinking games" with your kids. These are games where there is not just one answer. Scrabble and chess are examples. Emphasize the value of thoughtful moves rather than the importance of winning.

8. If you demonstrate excitement about learning and are open to your children pursuing their own interest areas, it will be hard for them to resist the opportunities.

9. Explain to your child why he or she is learning, and how it will be worthwhile for example, learning multiplication tables.

Police Raids Singaporean Homes For Illegally Downloaded Music

Seven homes were raided by the police on Sunday night as part of a crackdown on the illegal downloading of copyrighted music from the Internet. Police say they seized nine personal computers and three laptops, along with other accessories. Five men and two women, aged between 14 and 32 years old, are currently helping the police with their investigations. Of the seven, four are students, two are employed and one is a housewife.

This was being done in digital format through peer-to-peer file sharing programmes and networks. After extensive probes, the police ascertained the identities of the suspects, as well as their modus operandi. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects installed file sharing programmes in their computers and used them to search for copyrighted songs in digital formats via the file sharing networks.

"This clearly shows that these are serious cases. There are serious consequences. And not only will you get caught, but you will be prosecuted and you may face severe penalties. It is disappointing to know that it is well known that two young men have gone to jail earlier this year for similar infringing activities, and yet we still see some people not being deterred by such serious consequences."

You guys better watch yourself! They do not go after the big guys any more than your regular housewife!
